High Iron and Rollin' Thunder

Very busy week for me.  On Thursday we fired up the 3751 using tender oil pre-heated in a tub of hot water with the oil running through a coil.  It took about 6 hours to lift the pops.  We bottled her up and went home. 

At 9 am the next day Sam and I lit off the fire and I raised steam to 230 lbs.  I fired that mill all day.  We moved over the pit about 3 pm.  After the inspection we had a visitor in the cab, Sheriff Lee Baca, who rode with us to 8th Street yard.  I fired all the way without any problems, even getting a compliment from engineer Bill. 

After bottling it up we went home.  Fire up the next morning was 5 am, and Sam and I raised steam again.  All went well

Another crew back us to LAUS and we were off to San Bernardino.   It was quiet there compared to other years.  I had an easy day.  I warmed her up in the late afternoon and shut it down for the night.

The group went to the hotel, but I had 4:30 am fire up so I slept in the Tioga Pass business car.  I showered at the hotel and had a drink or two before returning to the station. 

We fired her up at 5 am without incident and spent another day with tours.  I rode the diesel back to El Monte and the 3751 from there to LAUS..  We returned the engine to Redondo Jct and shut her down.

All-in-all a good trip

Finished the firebox on 3751 last Saturday.  All is well.  Going to SB on the weekend.   I don't know who else is going. 

Went to WHS for a potluck and saw the world.   Talked to Kevin about the car, Elaine about old times, the Science dept for lunch and SS for hello.  All in all a nice day.

Yanks doing better than I thought but not as good as they should.  Beaten badly last night by TB they face a good pitcher tonight.  Lousy hitting on this team

My on-line bank account is screwed up.  They froze the whole thing.

Spent a lot of time cleaning the firebox of 3751.  Possible crack in combustion chamber.  We shall see.

Went to the Angel game Sunday with K and J and A and the kid.  It was very chilly in the stands but we had a great time.  We went to Pizza Lounge after for dinner.  Good time
 The weather has been cool and cloudy for a while now.  Hope it warms up.

We have tickets to Fenway and Yankee Stadium on this vacation to New England.  MR got us hotels in Boston and we will stay in one near LAX on the 23rd.

Watched the Yanks get humiliated by the Red Sox yesterday.  A real joke.  The Yankee lineup really stinks.  I don't think they will go very far this year. 

I am back on the South Beach diet.  I have lost five pounds of bloat since Sunday.  On the right track.

We are nearing the hydro test for 3751 next week.  We have really cleaned out the firebox this time.
