High Iron and Rollin' Thunder

A lot has happened since my last post. I went to graduation practice and then graduation on the 15th. I went to CB's party after. We had lunch with T & M.E. at Fullerton also. On Friday it was my last day at work (again!). Friday night we went to a concert at Pacific Amphitheter to see Huey Lewis and the News and Chicago. Great music!.

Saturday morning we were off to Ely NV to run steam engines. It was a long uneventful ride up. We stayed at the Ramada Inn. It was OK. On Sunday I ran #93 twice up to Keystone. The engineer Alan was cool, but didn't instruct much. On Monday, the engineer was Jason, a young kid, who know how to teach the air brakes very well. I finally figured out how to draw off 10 lbs. of air, use the lap position and bring the engine down the hill smoothly. Real nice fun.

We left immediately after the run for Jean NV at the Nevada Landing hotel. It also was OK. On Tuesday we were on the road at 7 and home at 11:15. All was well.

I have a couple of weeks off before the GJ meets.

I am almost finished with my training for the GJ. The training was good and I got all my assignments. I had a fine weekend. I went to Greg's funeral with JG. On Sunday BB and I rode to Mother's and the Huddle. It was good to get out. On Monday night we lost a tough softball game, 6-5 in 8 innings. Really a tough loss. The Lodge is becoming a pain. The problem with the caterer is starting to increase. Lots of whining going on. I have but 9 monts left. I might go to Colorado next week with BB to move Dean's stuff. A five day road trip would be fine. This weekend we are off to ELy NV to run steam engines. Tomorrow is graduation and Friday I retire again. Really time to move on. Anyway the GJ is the ticket for that.

Here I am, taking lessons on the GJ. Very involved lessons. I am pretty much finished at work. I have only to give a final on Friday. I went to the AT planning meeting on Sunday the 4th at Sammy G's. I left early because we had guests for dinner. It seems that Greg M. left the meeting later and got killed on his bike. Anyway the trip to the Midway is canceled and a funeral run is in place. This is the second time a run of mine has been canceled because of a death to a biker. An omen?? Tomorrow I will wear my suit to work since it is the last day I have with kids. I will take my camera.

A couple of things happened this week. First, I am on the GJ for sure. Someone dropped out already. Hmmmm I wonder if they know something I don't. MR and I were looking for a plasma or LCD 42" flat-screen TV for the family room. We saw one but the total price is $4K. Ouch. Work is fine. I have the BB banquet tonight. A couple of things are brewing for Saturday night; a fund-raiser and Harley night at the speedway in OC fairgrounds. Nest week is the run to SD Midway Museum for AT. I am Lodge host on the week of the 5th. Training begins on Tuesday the 6th. busy, busy. NYY doing fine in Motown.
