High Iron and Rollin' Thunder

Since the last entry, MR and I went to Ireland. We flew to JFK in NY and took a plane to Shannon airport in western Ireland. We were greeted by Mick the bus driver who took us to a nice hotel in Killarney. We spent two days there, getting a horse and carriage ride and touring in the bus. The hotel was great. The next stop was Galway and the hotel was not the best. It was "Arthur" day in Ireland, celebrating the creation of Gunniess ale. It is a college town and the students were partying all night in the street. Not the best deal.

We toured western Ireland riding up to Letterkenny in the northwest. We saw the cliffs and the hotel was great.

Next we went to Derry and Belfast in northern Ireland and had a great tour of the IRA areas. We went to Dublin and spent two days touring and shopping.

Ireland is a beautiful place, but I would not recommend a weeks bus tour as I felt trapped into the long boring lectures and lack of exercise.

A second problem was the long days flying from LA to Ireland and return. Next time a night in NY each way to catch up on sleep

We are going to Ireland soon. We have also made reservations for New Orleans. So the annual vacations are finishing up for this year. Still working on 3751. We have a lot of tender work and also finishing the refrigerator car. I wish we would finish a couple of these jobs soon, especially the refrigerator car.

There are plans for next years Railfest in Rock Island IL. We shall see what happens.

I keep forgetting about this Blog. Since I last wrote, nothing is really new. The summer was very cool for HB and the nights cooler. School opens tomorrow and the traffic gets worse. The Yanks are in first place 2 1/2 games up on TB. The Dodgers and Angels are both out of it.

Football season begins next weekend and hockey is not far behine. We are gering up for Ireland and then New Orleans later in the year. We are going to ride the Sunset Ltd back from N.O.
